What it really costs to own
Asking price The shop is open to offers ৳ 1,72,000
BRTA ownership transfer Rate for bikes above 100 cc ৳ 4,840
Affidavit stamp Non-judicial stamp for the sale paper ৳ 300
Roughly, all in ৳ 1,77,140

Until the bike is transferred at BRTA it legally stays in the seller's name. If it is later used in a crime, the registered owner is the one held responsible, and not transferring can carry a fine of up to ৳ 5,000. Do the transfer, and keep the receipt.

Government fees, checked August 2026. BRTA sets these and can change them, so treat this as a guide and confirm at the BRTA office. Add ৳ 2,260 if the bike still needs a digital number plate.

Check the papers yourself Four steps at the counter, free, using BRTA's own tools

We verify the shop, and you verify the bike. Only BRTA can confirm a vehicle's papers, so here is how to do it while you are standing there.

  1. Ask to see the original papers

The registration certificate and the tax token, the originals rather than photocopies. A shop that trades in bikes keeps them to hand, because it cannot sell you the bike without them.

  2. Scan the QR, if the papers have one

Digital documents carry a QR that confirms BRTA issued them. It is free, it needs no account, and it takes a minute while you stand there. Older papers have no QR, which is common and not a problem by itself.

  3. Match the numbers on the bike to the numbers on the paper

The chassis number is on the frame near the steering head, the engine number on the crankcase. Read them character by character against the certificate. Filed down, re-stamped or freshly painted over means walk away.

  4. Finish the transfer at BRTA, together

The bike is not yours until the transfer is filed, and until then it stays in the seller's name legally. Agree when you are both going, and keep the receipt.

There is no public number-plate lookup in Bangladesh, no online stolen-vehicle register and no per-vehicle fine check. Anyone offering you one is not showing you government data.

BRTA links last checked August 2026. That date is about this guide, not about this bike. Government sites are sometimes slow or briefly down, which is not a sign of a bad document.
